mia

I'm going to be mia for a little while. I've got so much going on that I just can't keep up with my blog right now. Hopefully on Sunday I'll be able to provide a full recap! Tootles!

so I'm a bit dramatic and my husband is awesome

This weekend was seriously crazy. We worked on the house and I had a yard sale with my friend Allison. I made $200 y'all! Of course that's not the crazy part. The crazy part happened Saturday night.

On Fridays we've been meeting up with friends at Miyabi's for drinks. Since we missed this Friday, we met up on Saturday instead. The drinking started at 7:30 like it normally does. The reason we like to go to Miyabi's is because we know the bartender and she pours us triple drinks. Normally I have about two drinks and I'm done for the evening. I believe I had about 4 or 5. Not good.

I got sick in the bathroom and the bartender had to come in after me, got sick in the parking lot, cried because I got sick in front of strangers, made Danny pull over twice on the way home, screamed at him because he was touching me, got sick till I was dry heaving, and then passed out all before 10:30. I may be a bit dramatic when I get drunk. The hubs was of course laughing the whole time, which just made me hate him more.

Sunday I woke up hung-over with a headache and mystery bruises all over me. I don't think I'll be drinking again for awhile.

Here's another sneak peak at our house. I just had to post this one because I'm so happy how it turned out. The hallway used to be wallpapered with grandma flowers below the chair rail. We ripped out the flowers and put up bead board. We took a risk and bought blue paint from the oops pile at Lowes and I am in love! Hubs did an amazing job putting it all together.

it's almost friday

Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday. I definitely live for the weekends these days. Work is so stressful. I want, no need, a vacation. Guess Saturday and Sunday will have to do.

I've been stalking Zappos lately yearning for new shoes. You might have noticed some beauties on my wish list. As I was clicking through all the pages and pages of shoes I suddenly remembered Tom's. I'd heard good things about these shoes so I headed over to their web page.

Today happens to be their One Day without Shoes event. They encourage people to go one day, today, without wearing shoes so you are aware of just how much we can take for granted something as simple as a pair of shoes. The other amazing thing about Tom's? For every pair of  shoes that are purchased, they donate a pair to someone in need. Ah-may-zing!!!! I was immediately compelled to purchase a pair of shoes. Now I'm desperately awaiting the arrival of these lovelies:

I'm so excited! Also, I've been barefoot since I got home. Gotta support a great cause!

Topic Change: Is it weird that watching 16 and Pregnant makes me want to have a baby? I have quite the stockpile of 16 and Pregnant episodes on my DVR, so I've been having a mini marathon tonight. For some reason, watching this junk makes me want a baby of my own. Weird. Yes. I know.

Outfit of the Day: naked toes!

orange top - Belk
jeans - Gap
earrings - gift from mom
sandals - Belk

Please excuse my naked toes. It's been forever since I've gotten a pedicure. I believe I'm a bit overdue. A cute color would at least distract some from my ugly broken foot. As you can see it's all sorts of smaller and differently shaped from my other foot. Stupid car accident*.

*For those of you interested, here's my story. If you're not interested click on over to the next blog. I won't be offended. I promise.

On May 28th, 2004 I graduated from high school and on May 29th around 1 o'clock in the morning I was in a life changing car accident. Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I was not drinking, partying, and getting nasty with some boy in a back alley. I was a goodie-goodie. I had gone out to dinner with friends and stayed out late celebrating our biggest life moment (well - at the age of eighteen).

As I was driving home, some guy decided that a red light was only a suggestion, blew through the intersection, and t-boned me. Since I saw him coming I was stepping on the brakes, hard, to try and slow down as much as I could before we hit. Little did I know this was about the worst thing I could do. The impact of the two cars hitting went directly to my right ankle and shattered it. I don't mean broke into a couple of pieces. I mean shattered like dropping your favorite piece of china on a cement floor.

I was in the hospital for a week, sent home for a week because I was too swollen for surgery, came back for the surgery, and woke up with an external fixator instead. WARNING: Don't click on the link if you have a weak stomach. It's a cartoon drawing of one, but still gross.

After some time in my torture device I went back and had the surgery for reals. I spent the entire summer in bed wasting away, like literally. My right leg is still smaller than my left leg from lack of use. I was also the skinniest I'd ever been. Six years later, my body is heading back in the direction of where it wants to be. Sads.

Months later my doctor finally told me that I was one lucky girl because they almost had to amputate. As in CUT! MY! FOOT! OFF! That's pretty dang scary. So after spending my first semester at Clemson on crutches, years in physical therapy, and a second surgery to get rid of bone spurs I'm sometimes a bit bitter about my foot.

I love shoes, LOVE, but it's very depressing. My broken foot is smaller than my normal foot, about 1.5 sizes smaller, plus I have a high arch on the broken foot and a fallen arch on the normal foot. The heel of my broken foot rolls over to the right side and curves in slightly. Ugh.

Things I can't wear:
stilettos
shoes without straps
slip on flats
peep toes
kitten heels

Things I can wear:
tennis shoes (but I have to change them every six months)
flip flops (ehhh really shouldn't but do anyway)
sperry top siders
flats that have the elastic sides so they stay on the broken foot
mary janes (and then I look like I'm five)
t-strap heels (have two pairs)
riding boots (great for fall/winter but it's spring now!)

I get shoe envy when I watch the opening credits of The Devil Wears Prada and any episode of Sex and the CIty.

And now you know.

And knowing is half the battle.

wish list

So now that it's officially my birthday month (yes I get the whole month) I decided to put together a little wish list just in case any of you lovelies decided to send something my way.

all size 8.5
(shoe fettish much?)

hand cut in the traditional style with our last name initial of S

I may find more things to add before the big day, but that's what I'm lusting over right this second.

rocker chique

Today I was a little adventurous with my outfit. I recently had this t-shirt given to me that I thought I'd never wear because it had a skull on it, but I added pearls and loved the results. The finishing touch would have been an awesome hair poof, but I need someone to teach me how.

skull tee - gift
black jacket - Belk
blue pants - Gap
pearls - my grandmother's

Work today was a disaster. If you follow me on twitter than you already know I cried. So frustrating. On the way home I picked up Zorba's pizza and a greek salad and topped it with a glass of Biltmore blush. Wine always makes for a good attitude adjustment.

Allison came over because we're starting a scrapbook night on Wednesdays. We've already cheated this first Wednesday and didn't scrapbook. Instead we priced out and organized all of the things I've set aside for the yard sale on Saturday. I'm excited since it's my first yard sale. I hope that people actually want my things and I make a little money. My vera blog sale was a whopping failure so I'm going to yard sale all of it. Wish me luck!

take me back tuesday: 4h

While I was never in 4H myself, I had a cousin who was. The family would often go to the fair to support her as she showed her goats and cows and sometimes I got in on the action. I also had a couple of classmates who showed fluffy bunnies.

Instead of rolling my shorts a million times like girls do now to show a little leg, I just pulled them up as far as I could. Don't you love the keds?

I still remember taking this picture. The girl on the left is Ruth, the girl in the middle is Jill, and the girl on the right was pulled into the picture because my grandmother felt bad for her. None of us knew who she was.

Below is a sneak peak at something in our house only because I had to show you what we found this morning.

These are the built in shelves in our bedroom.

and this is what we found this morning! No idea how Sophia got up there and into the basket without knocking anything over. She was quite content sleeping in the basket with hubs' boxers haha.

Outfit of the Day: hello spring, I think I love you
jean jacket - Gap
dress - Belk
(I'm giving up on trying to remember when I bought stuff)

I didn't post yesterday's OOTD because I felt that I looked like a hot mess. Hubs (proving he reads my blog -- hiiiii!) said I should post every day no matter what because he didn't think I looked like a hot mess...bwahaha! Love him. He has also declared that this dress does not make me look prego like most of my other dresses. Score.

three day weekend

This lucky girl had a three day weekend and it was glorious. Of course it went by all too fast, but it was wonderful (and productive) nonetheless. I love crossing things off my to do list!

Friday I had the house to myself. While I had the day off, hubs did not. I did manage to get some things done but not as much as I wanted. I stayed in bed till 10 and then walked around the block for the very first time. I actually started being productive around noon. What I accomplished:
  • patched holes in the walls of the kitchen, dining room, and living room
  • found the paint to touch up the patched holes
  • realized I painted the kitchen the wrong color, twice, and then noticed we did not have the correct paint
  • saw that the touch ups in the dining room and living room looked funny even though it was the correct paint
  • tried to fix it
  • got frustrated and gave up on it looking normal
  • hung two curtain rods
  • ironed the curtains to go on the rods which led to...
  • ironing clothes I had been avoiding for a week (or two)
  • cleaned the kitchen
  • made dinner
Danny and I went out for drinks with friends that evening. It was fun, as always, and I even got a bit dressed up.

green top - Banana Republic (2010)
pink cami - New York & Co. (2007)
jeans - Gap (2010)
pink shoes - Sperry Marions via zappos.com (2010 - being returned, after I took the picture I realized I didn't like them as much and they fit funny...changed into pink Rainbows)

Saturday we didn't get moving until late. We started making lists of things we need to get done and what we need to purchase to finish it all. I decided it was time to do our big Lowes trip and use the coupons and gift cards we had been saving. Three hours later we had purchased $300 worth of stuff for $88! Hooray for being savvy.

I began trying to decide on where I want all of our pictures hung. This is no easy task. Our rental house had a lot more wall space and now I feel like we have entirely too many pictures. I must have swapped things around for a good hour. I didn't start pounding any nails that night because I wanted to let things sink in. Yes I'm that kind of decorator.

Sunday we got up for church, pulled into the parking lot, and saw on the sign out front that service had been held at 7am...oops. We hadn't gone to church last week because we've been working on the house, so we missed the memo about a sunrise service.

We came back home, changed, and worked on the house. Danny put up a new light near the side entrance and changed the side door from one having lots of glass to a solid. (I'm not big on glass doors since they're so easy to break in to.)

I actually started to hang pictures on the walls. They look pretty decent so far. I haven't finished everything but I've put pictures up in the dining room, living room, hallway, and craft room. There was a shadow box in the hall bath with a garden scene in it. I ripped that apart and began to replace it. I promise I will post pictures when everything is finished for the party (but not before)!

We went to my parents' house and spent Easter on the lake. Nothing like eating ham sandwiches and taking a nap in the sun. We did this last year and it's looking like a new Easter favorite. We're not a very "traditional" type family if you hadn't noticed haha.

How was your Easter?
